Where can a girl get her sing on???

Hi PoPville!  So I've been singing almost my entire life but haven't done it on a performance level in quite a few years and I'm missing it something FIERCE!  I see a cappella auditions on craigslist every once in a while, but I haven't gotten a lot of positive feedback about any particular group.  I'd actually prefer to get back into musical theater but I can't seem to find auditions for that unless I'm a serious actor, whereas I'd like to just do it as a community theater-type thing.  Can you help a girl out?  Thanks! :)

There are lots of singing groups depending on how serious you want to be.  My two recommendations would be Runnymede Singers (very casual, few requirements, performs mostly in nursing homes for fun) or 18th Street Singers (very serious, very good group but younger and more fun than a lot of the alternatives).  I can talk to you about Runnymede (about to go on summer break, starting up again in the fall) and 18th Street has contact info on their website (I know a few people in the group, and they're very nice).

The Capitol Hill Chorale (www.capitolhillchorale.org) is a great community chorale - they'll be holding auditions for the 2012-13 season in August.  We rehearse once a week on the Hill, and while it's mostly non-professional singers, it's a very talented, dedicated, and fun group.

As for Musical Theatre, the Georgetown Law Gilbert and Sullivan Society puts on a musical each fall and a Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta each spring.  Auditions are open to everyone.  http://www.law.georgetown.edu/...nbsp; Probably those folks would know about other community theatre options as well.

Singer Source is a great resource for all things classical singing, and they have an extremely comprehensive list of local groups on their website: http://singersource.com/index..... They don't have info on musical theater, however.

There are a ton of community theater groups in dc that do musicals. Many participate in the watch awards program... http://www.washingtontheater.o... so you should be able to find a list of theaters there, and then just keep an eye out for auditions.

If you're interested in trying something new, Orfeia is always auditioning new members! We sing primarily Bulgarian music, along with some Russian, Greek, Judeo-spanish, and Serbian stuff, and we are directed by an amazing performer and teacher, Tatiana Sarbinska (also she's a Bulgarian national treasure). We rehearse Monday nights in Woodley Park and one Saturday or Sunday per month.
Check out our website (in sore need of an update - please excuse!) or facebook: http://orfeia.org/ or http://www.facebook.com/pages/...
