Fair price to pay neighborhood kid to water plants?

We have a fairly large yard with a vegetable garden that must be watered daily, and other plants that should be watered every 5 days or so if it is hot and dry.  What's a fair price to pay a kid to do that while I'm out of town for 2 weeks?

When I get people to help me out like this I like to negociate a per hour rate so nobody feels ripped off. If it takes 1/2 an hour to water your yard there's 7 hours for 2 weeks. Present it like that and offer them an hourly rate that you're comfortable with. I usually pay $12 an hour for yard work. For a kid maybe you pay less so they don't get spoiled.

I recently went through this too.  I needed someone to come over daily for a week to water a bunch of plants and young trees.  It usually takes me about 15 minutes to do it, so we agreed on $5 / visit x 8.  I paid 1/2 up front and 1/2 upon my return.  Because it turned out to be the week of the heat wave and none of my plants were dead, I gave her an extra $10.
