  • Looking for subjects for a photo contest

    pabloraw

    Washington, DC

Hi Popville: I'm planning to participate on a photography contest in which the winning photo(s) will be published on a fashion magazine. I am looking for one or two people to be on the photo, no modeling experience required and the only thing I may ask the participant(s) is to dress up a little bit.
Please e-mail me to [email protected] if interested and I'll give you more details.

  • Magazine Disposal

    zackieo

In the process of moving from the area, I have been going through stuff and getting rid of a lot of things. I have several years worth of Juxtapoz Magazine (monthly contemporary art mag) that I feel weird about throwing in the recycling bin. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about where I might be able to donate them, like to a school or a library. All suggestions are appreciated!  More»

I don't know how things work as far as school/library donation, but you could probably find an eager taker on Freecycle DC - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freecycledc/ - or the Craigslist free section.

I think Goodwill takes magazines, but I'm not positive. See More »

My visual artist sister is living with me over the summer, and she wants to get involved in the DC art community. I'm looking for an art coworking space (à la Goldleaf) or a gallery/co-op where she could work alongside other artists.

A friend of mine has a 19th century French oil painting he wants to sell. Other than Sotheby's or Christie's, any recommendations for a reputable auctioneer/dealer in the District (not the burbs)? • Venues (and participants) for craft workshops?

    hollimichele

    Mount Rainier, MD

I'm trying to organize some arts-and-crafts workshops this spring and summer, but I'm not sure where to hold them, or how to find enough people who'd want to go. I'm pretty flexible on the kinds of activities-- I can do anything from building miniature gardens to papercraft to knitting-- and I can teach kids or adults, but I need a space and an audience. Can anyone recommend a good place to start?  More»

you have many options, but if you don't have your own mailing list built up already, my suggestion is to hook up with some arts organization of some sort. In mount rainier, you could try talking to joes movement emporium, brentwood arts center, or the directors of the washington glass school, flux ...... See More »
  • Moving soon...what to see?

    bkadc99

In a few months I'll be moving out of DC--after 8+ years here. I've tried to be a pretty active resident in terms of sightseeing and activities, but are there any must sees I might have missed? I'm thinking more "off the beaten path" places or events (outside of the Smithsonians, art museums, monuments) that I'd want to check out before it's too late. Thanks!  More»

  • Looking for a specific Eastern Market artisan

    sarahparnass

    Washington, DC

Hi all! Earlier this fall, my boyfriend and I went to Eastern Market and found a vendor selling hand-painted coins from around the world, which he'd made into cufflings, belt buckles, etc. He had an old Air Force coin that he'd made into a belt buckle, and I'd really like to get it as a surprise for my boyfriend for his birthday, but I've been back to Eastern Market twice this month, and I can't seem to find him!
Does anyone else know who this vendor is or how I can get in touch with him?

The vendors often only come on one of the days - either Saturday or Sunday - so you'd probably have to check both days of the weekend. Also - Thanksgiving weekend brings a helluva lot of the vendors back for holiday sales, so this weekend would be a good one to try. Or - ask around at the regular v...... See More »

    Hi All,
I am looking to rent a small studio space a few times a month to host a pop up art workshop. It would be for 8-10 children and their parents. Does anyone know of a place to search for spaces like this? (or does any one know of businesses willing to rent out sections of their space?)

  • Where can I donate craft supplies in the DC/MD/VA area?

    DC

After my mother passed 4 years ago, I inherited a bunch of her craft supplies (on top of those I already owned). I would like to donate these supplies to a specific cause, rather than to Goodwill/Salvation Army.
The craft supplies I want to donate include:
    Scrapbooking - Paper, embellishments, pens/pencils/markers
Beading - Beads (glass, plastic, crystal), clasps, jump rings, tools, etc.
Photography - 35mm film (probably expired, but I bet it would still work), dark room paper, and books
Books - Knitting, beading and quilting

  • Looking for graphic design vendors for nonprofit org?

    banannigans

    Hi there,
I work at a non-profit and we're looking for a good DC-based graphic design company to help us build our annual report. In addition to print, there may be web/flash components to this. Not a deal maker/breaker, but it would also be great if they had a special interest in nonprofits/social causes. Has anyone used or consulted with a graphic design company that fits the bill?
    Thanks in advance!  More»

  • Photography Project about immigrants

    pabloraw

    Washington, DC

Hello immigrants of PoPville! Pablo here. I am currently working on a photography project about immigrants. The goal of the project is to show the contribution of immigrants to the culture, society and economy of this great nation. I will be taking a portrait of each person and will ask a couple of questions in order to tell something about them. The photos and stories will be online on a website, but there is a place that has already offered to hold an exhibit. If interested in participating in the project, please e-mail at [email protected] Thanks!  More»

    Washington, DC

    Friends in PoPVille,

We need your help to save one of DC's most treasured cultural institutions - the Corcoran Gallery of Art. As many of you know, it was announced recently that the museum's Board of Trustees is exploring selling the National Historic Landmark building that houses the Corcoran's American art collection and the Corcoran College of Art + Design. The decision blindsided the community of artists, students, alums and other supporters who form the backbone of the institution.
